Fresno Dermatologist Babak Roshdieh, M.D.
Babak Roshdieh M.D., is a native of Fresno. Growing
up in Fresno, Dr. Roshdieh was able to take advantage of
the excellent educational opportunities that Fresno has
to offer. Knowing at an early that he would like to
become a physician, Dr. Roshdieh dedicated himself to
all the educational opportunities that are available in
Fresno. Dr. Roshdieh attended the Laboratory School Of
Natural Sciences and simultaneously took college classes
at Fresno City Collage through their enrichment program.
After graduating from high school at age 14, Dr.
Roshdieh attended Fresno State University where he
excelled in mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology.
Dr. Roshdieh obtained enough credits to qualify for
multiple degrees in the sciences. Fresno State gave Dr.
Roshdieh the opportunity not only for an excellent
foundation for medicine by providing rigorous diverse
courses, but also the opportunity to participate in
medical research through the University of California
San Francisco (UCSF) Central Valley Education Program.
Dr. Roshdieh had the opportunity to work with Dr.
Kent Yamaguchi, A Fresno Plastic Surgeon and UCSF
graduate on smoke inhalation injury and burn research.
Through this experience, Dr. Roshdieh was able to
publish and present at various national medical
meetings. Prior to graduating from Fresno State at age
19, Dr. Roshdieh was accepted at the National
Aeronautical and Space Agency (NASA) for a research
endeavor through the prestigious Space Life Science
Training Program (SLSTP). Over 7,000 science major
applicants from universities across the US applied for
this prestigious program. Dr. Roshdieh was selected as
one of the 36 applicants accepted for this program. Dr.
Roshdieh's research at NASA focused on the affects of
zero gravity on the carotid baroreceptors and various
electromechanical methods to diminish this effect.
After returning from NASA, Dr. Roshdieh took his
Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) and scored in the
top 1% in the nation. After obtaining interviews from
the most prestigious universities in the country
including Ivey League universities such as Harvard,
Yale, Brown, Columbia, Dr. Roshdieh decided on Stanford
University. While at Stanford School of Medicine, Dr.
Roshdieh continued to augment his education by
participating in various research projects. While at
Stanford, Dr. Roshdieh immersed himself in transplant
immunology research through the department of plastic
surgery as well as the department of orthopedic surgery.

After graduating from Stanford University Medical
School, Dr. Roshdieh elected to do a rigorous surgical
internship at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital prior to
starting his Dermatology residency at the University of
South Florida. During his residency, Dr. Roshdieh
developed a keen interest in Malignant Melanoma, one of
the most deadly cancers in the United States, and one
that accounts for one American death every 57 minutes.
Through his research and academic excellence at the
University of South Florida, Dr. Roshdieh won the
prestigious Ligand Dermatology Scholarship awarded to
the top dermatology residents in the nation. After
completing his Residency, Dr. Roshdieh was offered a
cosmetic dermatology fellowship at UCSF but decided to
turn it down to dedicate himself to the prevention,
diagnosis, and treatment of skin cancer, an undeclared
epidemic, especially in the valley with our strong
agricultural base and outdoor life style.
Dr. Roshdieh became a Board Certified Dermatologist
by passing the American Board of Dermatology (one of the
boards recognized by the American Board of Medical
Specialties) examination in 2001, a 2-day intensive
dermatology examination covering medical, surgical, and
cosmetic dermatology as well as dermatopathology. Dr.
Roshdieh passed his American Board of Dermatology
Re-certification examination in 2011.

Dr. Roshdieh grew up in
Fresno California and attended Fresno State
University. Growing up in Fresno gave Dr.
Roshdieh his small town values ' values that he
has kept till today.

Dr. Roshdieh and his wife
Neda, a pharmacist, are active in the community
supporting various non-profit organizations as
well as the Fresno State Foundation.
